India Assures Six Medals in U-23 Men's Boxing at Asian U-19 & U-23 Championships

Jakarta, July 10, 2026: India's U-23 men's boxing contingent continued its impressive campaign at the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships, with six boxers advancing to the semifinals to assure medals following Friday's quarterfinal action in Jakarta.
Asian champion Vishvanath (50kg) led the Indian charge with a dominant 5:0 victory over Saudi Arabia's Ibrahim Aljohani. Ganga (55kg) also delivered a commanding display, registering a comprehensive 5:0 win against Vietnam's Quang Loc Tran.
In the 65kg category, Vanshaj secured an impressive 4:1 victory over Kazakhstan's Assylkhan Kosherbay, while Hitesh (70kg) produced one of India's standout performances by stopping Indonesia's Radiyansyah via Referee Stops Contest (RSC) in the opening round.
Six Indian Boxers Seal Medal Berths
With the quarterfinal victories, India has now guaranteed six medals in the U-23 men's competition. Joining Vishvanath, Ganga, Vanshaj and Hitesh in the semifinals are Neeraj (75kg) and Ishan Kataria (+90kg), who had already secured their places in the last four.
The six semifinalists will now compete for a place in their respective finals and remain in contention for gold medals at the continental championship.
Tough Outings for Other Indian Boxers
Despite spirited performances, Aryan Malik (80kg) and Rocky Chaudhary (85kg) bowed out in the quarterfinals after losing by 4:1 and 4:0 decisions respectively.
Hemant Sangwan (90kg) also exited the tournament following a 5:0 defeat against Uzbekistan's Samir Sobirov.
India's Medal Hopes Continue to Grow
India's consistent performances across multiple weight categories highlight the country's growing strength in age-group boxing. With six U-23 men's boxers assured of medals and still in contention for gold, the team will look to build on its momentum in the semifinal stage.
The Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships are being held in Jakarta from July 5 to July 16 and continue to serve as an important platform for emerging boxers from across the continent to showcase their talent.
