India Extends Winning Momentum on Day 3 in Jakarta
Jakarta, July 7, 2026: India continued its impressive run at the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships with a series of commanding performances in the U-19 category on Day 3, led by Ambekar Meetei (50kg), who delivered a dominant victory in the men's competition.
The championship, being held in Jakarta from July 5 to July 16, has seen India's young boxers make a confident start, with several athletes advancing through the early rounds.
Ambekar Meetei Dominates in Opening Round
Competing in the 50kg category, Ambekar Meetei secured a commanding win over Chinese Taipei's Qi-You Xiao via RSC in the first round, displaying complete control from the opening bell.
Aditya and Sikander Record Convincing Victories
In the boys' division, Aditya (55kg) registered a comprehensive 5:0 victory over Kyrgyzstan's Daniel Tashtanbekov.
Sikander (60kg) continued India's winning run with another clinical 5:0 triumph against Korea's Taemin Yang, maintaining the team's impressive performance on the day.
Devendra Choudhary Adds Another Win
Devendra Choudhary (75kg) also impressed, defeating Chinese Taipei's Sung-Lin Tsai via RSC in the second round. His dominant display further highlighted India's strength across multiple weight categories.
Prashant Narrowly Misses Out
In the 70kg contest, Prashant produced a spirited performance against Kazakhstan's Bibarys Ashirvay in a closely fought bout. After losing the opening round 4:1, he responded strongly to claim the second round 3:2 before narrowly conceding the deciding round 3:2, resulting in a hard-fought defeat.
India's Youth Boxers Continue to Impress
India's consistent performances in the U-19 category reflect the depth and quality of the country's youth boxing programme, with multiple boxers progressing confidently through the competition.
The Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships, running from July 5 to July 16 in Jakarta, continue to provide an important platform for India's emerging boxers to gain international experience and prepare for future elite competitions.
