India Continues Strong Start at U-23 Asian Boxing Championships

Jakarta, July 6, 2026: India continued its impressive campaign at the U-23 Asian Boxing Championships with a series of dominant performances on Day 2, led by reigning Asian Champion Vishvanath Suresh (50kg), who secured a commanding unanimous decision victory in Jakarta.

Vishvanath outclassed Uzbekistan's Amirbek Ismoilov with a comprehensive 5:0 verdict, displaying excellent technique and ring control to advance in the competition.

Ganga and Hitesh Maintain India's Winning Momentum

India's success in the men's competition continued as Ganga (55kg) produced another clinical display, defeating Mongolia's Amgalanbaatar Bulgankhuu by a unanimous 5:0 decision.

Hitesh (70kg) also delivered a dominant performance, overcoming Chinese Taipei's Jun-Zhanglin with another clean 5:0 verdict to strengthen India's campaign across multiple weight divisions.

Sagar Jakhar Suffers Setback

In the men's 60kg category, Sagar Jakhar's campaign came to an unfortunate halt after he was disqualified during his bout against Japan's Koichi Nakayama.

Tanu Impresses in Women's Competition

India's winning run extended into the women's division as Tanu (51kg) registered a confident 5:0 victory over Korea's Ryeongyeon Kim. She controlled the contest from start to finish, demonstrating precision, composure and tactical discipline throughout the bout.

India Eyes Strong Finish in Jakarta

India's encouraging performances in the opening stages of the tournament reflect the team's strong preparation and determination to compete for top honours at the continental championship, being held in Jakarta from July 5 to July 16.

With several Indian boxers advancing in their respective weight categories, the contingent will aim to maintain its momentum as the competition progresses.
