Six Indian Boxers Reach U-19 Asian Championship Semifinals, Assure Medals

Jakarta, July 11, 2026: India confirmed six medals in the U-19 men's category at the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships after an outstanding performance in the quarterfinals on Saturday in Jakarta.
The Indian contingent produced a series of dominant displays, with six boxers advancing to the semifinals and guaranteeing themselves podium finishes in the continental competition.
Six Indian Boxers Seal Semifinal Berths
Aditya (55kg) began India's successful run with a commanding 5:0 victory over the Philippines' Baruis Ephraim John to book his place in the last four.
Sikander (60kg) followed with an impressive 4:1 win against Tajikistan's Sharifkhon Nuraliev, while Mausam Suhag (65kg) also progressed to the semifinals to assure India another medal.
In the higher weight categories, Devender Choudhary (75kg) outclassed Indonesia's Muhammad Rayhan Athaillah with a unanimous 5:0 verdict.
Sagar (85kg) continued India's dominant run by defeating Indonesia's Irnanda Firmanda through a Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the second round, while Shubham Rajput (90kg) secured an emphatic first-round RSC victory over Indonesia's Nouval Nouval.
Close Contests for Other Indian Boxers
India also featured in several closely fought contests during the quarterfinal stage.
- Ambekar Meitei Lairenlakp (50kg) lost by a narrow 3:2 split decision to Japan's Kotaro Nishizaki.
- Lokesh (80kg) was defeated 3:1 by Kazakhstan's Timur Taibekov.
- Loven Gulia (+90kg) suffered an RSC defeat in the second round against Kazakhstan's Vladislav Samozhonov.
India's Medal Tally Set to Grow
With six U-19 men's boxers advancing to the semifinals, India has guaranteed at least six medals in the category, highlighting the country's growing strength and depth in youth boxing.
The performances also reinforce India's reputation as one of Asia's emerging boxing powerhouses, with several young athletes continuing to impress on the continental stage.
Championship Continues in Jakarta
The Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships are being held in Jakarta from July 5 to July 16, bringing together some of Asia's brightest young boxing talents as they compete for continental honours across multiple weight categories.
