Jakarta, July 9, 2026: India continued its impressive campaign at the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships as six U-19 women boxers advanced to the semifinals on Day 5, taking the country's assured medal tally in the category to eight.

Following a series of dominant performances in the quarterfinals, India's young pugilists showcased their strength across multiple weight divisions, reinforcing the country's growing reputation in youth boxing. With a place in the semifinals secured, all six boxers are now guaranteed at least a bronze medal.

Indian Boxers Dominate Quarterfinals

Chandrika Bhoresh Pujari (51kg) led the charge with a commanding 5:0 unanimous decision over Kazakhstan's Zhadyra Kaltay. Joyshree Devi (54kg) followed with another dominant 5:0 victory against Kazakhstan's Maral Tolepbergen.

Prachi (57kg) maintained her excellent form by defeating Uzbekistan's Robiya Ravshanova via a unanimous 5:0 verdict, while Chahat (60kg) outclassed Kazakhstan's Zhasmin Abramyan with another comprehensive 5:0 win.

In the 48kg division, Gunjan overcame Mongolia's Altanzul Altangadas in a closely fought contest, prevailing by a 3:0 split decision. Anshika (75kg) completed India's successful day by registering a hard-earned 4:1 victory over Kazakhstan's Altyngul Aimukhan.

Two Indian Boxers Bow Out

India also witnessed two quarterfinal exits. Vanshika (65kg) suffered an RSC defeat in the opening round against Uzbekistan's Rushanabonu Isoeva, while Lakshu (70kg) went down 5:0 to Uzbekistan's Maftuna Yangieva.

Despite the setbacks, India's U-19 women's contingent has now secured eight medals at the continental championships, underlining the depth of talent emerging from the country's youth boxing programme.

Platform for India's Rising Stars

The Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships are being held in Jakarta from July 5 to July 16, bringing together some of Asia's finest young boxers. The tournament serves as an important platform for India's next generation of athletes to gain international experience and prepare for future world-level competitions.
