Dempo Goa Challengers Create UTT History with Unbeaten League Stage After 10-5 Win Over UP Prometheans

Goa, July 22, 2026: Dempo Goa Challengers etched their name into the Ultimate Table Tennis record books by becoming the first team to complete the league phase unbeaten after defeating UP Prometheans 10-5 in Butterfly UTT Season 7 Powered by ChatGPT on Wednesday.

The victory completed a flawless campaign for the two-time champions, who won all six of their league-stage ties to finish at the top of the standings and head into the semi-finals with perfect momentum.

Organised under the aegis of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and promoted by Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani, Butterfly UTT Season 7 features 42 players from across the globe, including 14 Olympians, while continuing its efforts to strengthen India's table tennis ecosystem.

Robles and Szocs Set the Tone for Goa

Dempo Goa Challengers seized control of the tie from the opening match as Alvaro Robles produced a dominant straight-games victory over Sudhanshu Grover, winning 11-7, 11-5, 11-4.

Bernadette Szocs then extended Goa's lead with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Sayali Wani. After comfortably taking the opening game, Szocs held her nerve in the decider to give the defending champions a commanding advantage.

The tie was effectively sealed in the mixed doubles as Szocs teamed up with Abhinandh PB to edge Ricardo Walther and Swastika Ghosh in three closely contested games, ensuring Goa maintained its unbeaten record.

UP Prometheans End on a Positive Note

UP Prometheans fought back in the final two matches of the evening to reduce the deficit.

Manav Thakkar defeated Abhinandh PB 2-1, handing the young Indian his second consecutive singles defeat after an impressive run through much of the season.

Former two-time UTT MVP Yangzi Liu also recovered from losing the opening game to overcome teenage talent Syndrela Das 2-1. However, the late victories proved insufficient as Goa comfortably secured a historic 10-5 triumph.
