Dabang Delhi TTC strengthened their playoff push in Butterfly Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) Season 7 Powered by ChatGPT with a hard-fought 9-6 victory over Ahmedabad APL Pipers on Monday. Captain Sathiyan Gnanasekaran led from the front, delivering crucial wins in both the men's singles and mixed doubles to steer the former champions to their third victory of the season.

Playing at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Goa, Delhi and Ahmedabad exchanged early blows before Sathiyan and Maria Xiao regained control in the mixed doubles. The Delhi skipper then sealed the tie's momentum with a commanding straight-games win over Payas Jain, laying the foundation for a vital victory.

Organised under the aegis of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and promoted by Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani, Butterfly UTT Season 7 features 42 players from across the globe, including 14 Olympians, while continuing its focus on strengthening Indian table tennis through elite competition and year-round development initiatives.

Delhi and Ahmedabad Trade Early Blows

Dabang Delhi made the brighter start as Youssef Abdelaziz edged Adrien Rassenfosse in an entertaining three-game contest, clinching the decider on the Golden Point to hand his team an early advantage.

Ahmedabad APL Pipers responded immediately through their in-form foreign star Sofia Polcanova, who continued her impressive campaign by defeating Maria Xiao in another Golden Point thriller to level the tie.

The momentum shifted once again in Delhi's favour when Sathiyan Gnanasekaran teamed up with Maria Xiao to overcome Payas Jain and Sofia Polcanova in the mixed doubles, restoring their lead heading into the final two matches.

Sathiyan Delivers Captain's Knock

With the contest evenly balanced, Sathiyan produced one of his best performances of the season. After suffering defeats to Payas Jain in recent encounters, the Indian ace responded in emphatic fashion with a clinical 3-0 victory to extend Delhi's advantage and leave Ahmedabad with a mountain to climb.

Ahmedabad captain Manika Batra closed the evening with a spirited victory over Sutirtha Mukherjee in the women's singles, but it proved only a consolation as Delhi completed a valuable 9-6 triumph.
