KSCA Commissions Modern LED Floodlighting System at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art LED Sports Floodlighting System at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, marking a significant step in its ongoing efforts to modernise cricket infrastructure and deliver world-class facilities for players, broadcasters and spectators.

The new lighting system replaces the stadium's metal-halide floodlights, which had been in operation since 2010, with the latest LED Sports Floodlighting Technology designed to meet and exceed current international standards for professional cricket.

Advanced Lighting Meets International Cricket Standards

The newly commissioned system delivers more than 3,500 lux over the pitch and over 2,500 lux across the outfield, ensuring exceptional light uniformity and visibility for players, match officials and television audiences.

The project was inaugurated by Mr. G. Maheshwar Rao, IAS, Chief Commissioner, Greater Bengaluru Authority and Chairman of the Government Expert Committee, and Mr. Seemanth Kumar Singh, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City and Member Secretary of the Government Expert Committee. The ceremony was attended by Mr. B. K. Venkatesh Prasad, President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, and Mr. Munish Peshin, Senior Vice President & Business Head – India, Havells India Limited.

Designed for Next-Generation Cricket Broadcasting

The lighting upgrade has been executed by Havells India Limited using its advanced LED Sports Lighting Solution integrated with intelligent DMX Lighting Control Technology.

The system has been engineered to support modern cricket broadcasting requirements, including High Definition (HD), Ultra HD (4K) and super slow-motion coverage. It delivers flicker-free lighting, high vertical illumination and superior colour rendering, ensuring an enhanced viewing experience for television audiences worldwide.

Improved Sustainability and Match-Day Experience

Beyond improving on-field visibility and broadcast quality, the LED lighting system is approximately 40% more energy-efficient than the previous infrastructure. The upgrade is expected to reduce electricity consumption and diesel usage, reinforcing KSCA's commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible stadium operations.

The intelligent DMX Lighting Control Technology also enables instant switching and dynamic lighting sequences before, during and after matches, creating a more engaging match-day atmosphere for fans.

₹5 Crore Investment Strengthens Karnataka Cricket Infrastructure

Installed at a cost of nearly ₹5 crore, the LED floodlighting project is among several infrastructure initiatives undertaken by the current Managing Committee under the leadership of KSCA President Mr. B. K. Venkatesh Prasad. The investment is aimed at further strengthening Karnataka's reputation as one of India's leading cricketing destinations.

The inauguration took place ahead of the second match on the opening day of the Bengaluru leg of the DACSS Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20. The tournament will continue under the newly commissioned LED floodlights through to the final on 12 July 2026, marking the beginning of a new era for cricket at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

World-Class Venue Ready for Domestic and International Cricket

The installation further enhances the stature of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as one of India's premier cricket venues. Equipped with cutting-edge lighting infrastructure, the stadium is now better positioned to host domestic and international cricket while meeting the highest playing and broadcast standards.
