Hockey India has announced the launch of its nationwide Coaching and Officiating Education Pathway Workshops, with the first sessions set to begin on July 18. The initiative is aimed at strengthening India's hockey development ecosystem by providing internationally recognised learning opportunities for coaches and technical officials.
The workshops will feature separate training programmes for coaches and technical officials, with sessions led by educators and experts from the International Hockey Federation (FIH). Participants will receive training in modern coaching methodologies, technical expertise and the latest officiating standards.
Strengthening Hockey Education Across India
The programme has been designed to improve the knowledge and skills of coaches and technical officials while promoting structured hockey education across the country. Hockey India said the initiative forms part of its long-term vision to develop a sustainable ecosystem that supports players, coaches, officials and the overall growth of the sport.
By making high-quality hockey education more accessible nationwide, the federation aims to build a strong network of qualified coaches and technical officials capable of nurturing talent at every level of the game.
Focus on Grassroots Development
The workshops are expected to play a key role in strengthening grassroots hockey by equipping participants with internationally accepted coaching practices and officiating standards. The programme also seeks to create a more structured pathway for professional development within Indian hockey.
Leadership Highlights Importance of Education
Speaking about the initiative, Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey said the development of Indian hockey depends not only on players but also on the quality of coaches and technical officials.
"The growth of Indian hockey depends not only on our players but also on the quality of our coaches and technical officials. Through these workshops, we are committed to creating a strong education pathway that reaches every corner of the country. By bringing FIH Educators and experts, we aim to ensure that modern coaching practices and officiating standards are accessible to everyone, ultimately strengthening the foundation of the sport in India," he said.
Hockey India Secretary General Shri Bhola Nath Singh said continuous education remains central to the long-term development of the sport.
"At Hockey India, we believe continuous education is essential for the long-term development of the sport. These Coaching and Officiating Education Pathway workshops will provide valuable learning opportunities for aspiring and experienced coaches and officials. By conducting these workshops nationwide, we are creating a more inclusive and structured system that will contribute to the overall progress of Indian hockey," he said.
The nationwide initiative underscores Hockey India's continued commitment to strengthening the country's hockey ecosystem through education, professional development and internationally recognised training standards.
