Hockey India Announces 15-Player Sub-Junior Men's National Camp Squad for Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship 2026

New Delhi, July 6, 2026: Hockey India has announced the names of the 15 players who will take part in the sub-junior men's national camp ahead of the inaugural Men's Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship 2026, scheduled to be held in Muscat, Oman, from July 20 to 25.

The national camp will be conducted from July 7 to 18 at Panjab University, Sector 14, Chandigarh. The players will train under the guidance of former India captain and coach Sardar Singh as they prepare for the continental Hockey5s tournament.

Gold Medal-Winning U18 Asia Cup Squad Retained

All 15 players selected for the camp were part of the Indian squad that recently won the U18 Men's Asia Cup 2026, defeating hosts Japan 4-1 in the final to clinch the gold medal.

The camp reflects Hockey India's continued emphasis on strengthening its U-18 development programme by providing young players with opportunities to transition towards junior and senior international hockey.

Focus on Hockey5s Format

The two-week training programme has been designed to introduce players to the tactical and technical aspects of the Hockey5s format while enhancing their overall skills through structured coaching sessions.

Hockey India also acknowledged Panjab University for hosting the camp and providing world-class facilities to ensure the team prepares in the best possible environment ahead of the tournament.

Panjab University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Dr.) Renu Vig, visited the national camp and interacted with the players, extending her best wishes as they began their preparations.

Sardar Singh Eyes Strong Preparation

"This is a unique opportunity for these young players to represent India in a new format of the game at such a big level. Our objective over the next two weeks is to help the players understand the requirements of Hockey5s while continuing to strengthen the fundamentals that will benefit them throughout their careers. I would also like to thank Panjab University for extending excellent support in hosting this camp," said coach Sardar Singh.

The inaugural Men's Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship presents an important platform for India's emerging players to gain international experience in the fast-paced Hockey5s format while supporting Hockey India's long-term vision of identifying and nurturing future national team talent.
