Guwahati Royals' Abu Nechim Calls Assam Premier League a Launchpad for Emerging Cricket Talent

Guwahati, July 22, 2026: Former Indian Premier League (IPL) pacer Abu Nechim has described the Assam Premier League (APL) as a transformative platform for the state's young cricketers, saying the tournament offers aspiring players an opportunity to showcase their talent on a professional stage alongside established names.

Speaking during the Assam Premier League player auction, the Guwahati Royals pacer highlighted the remarkable depth of cricketing talent in the state, pointing to the large number of participants in the auction as evidence of Assam's growing talent pool.

"The Assam Premier League is very important, it is a genuinely good platform for our juniors. We had over 270 players in the auction, and I had knowledge of only about 120 of them. That tells you the sheer depth of undiscovered talent across Assam. The league gives every one of those players a stage to be seen," said Nechim.

APL Creating Pathways for Future Stars

Drawing from his own experience in the IPL, Nechim said the league has the potential to become a stepping stone for Assam's cricketers to reach the highest levels of the game.

He cited his own career and that of India batter Riyan Parag as examples of how players from Assam can progress to national and international recognition.

"Every player and every franchise has the same aim, to win the tournament. But imagine if players from the APL franchises go on to play the IPL, or even for India, next year. That is the real opportunity this league offers, and it will serve Assam cricket for years to come," he added.

Professional Stage for Emerging Cricketers

The Assam Premier League, organised under the aegis of the Assam Cricket Association, is built around the motto "Aamar Axom, Aamar Gourab". The tournament brings together franchise teams from across the state, including the Guwahati Royals, to provide a professional T20 environment where emerging cricketers can compete alongside experienced players.

With growing participation and increasing visibility, the league is expected to play a significant role in identifying and developing the next generation of cricketing talent from Assam.
