PHU QUOC, VIETNAM, July 13, 2026: Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the speedboat accident off Phu Quoc Island that claimed the lives of 15 Indian tourists, while assuring that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
According to local media reports, the Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and directed ministries, government agencies and local authorities to deploy all available medical resources, medicines and emergency assistance for those affected by the tragedy.
Boat Overturned Near An Thoi Port
Authorities said the speedboat, bearing registration number AG-26751, was carrying 32 Indian tourists, three crew members and one Vietnamese tour guide from May Rut Ngoai Islet to An Thoi International Port.
The vessel reportedly overturned around 400 metres from the shore at approximately 1 p.m. after encountering strong winds during the journey.
Rescue Operation Saves 21 People
Rescue teams launched an immediate search and rescue operation following the incident. By 3:30 p.m., all 36 people who had been onboard had been accounted for.
Officials confirmed that 21 people survived the accident, while 15 Indian tourists lost their lives.
Victims Taken to Hospitals
According to authorities in An Giang province, five of the recovered bodies have been kept at Kien Giang General Hospital, while the remaining 10 have been transferred to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City as officials carry out identification procedures and other necessary formalities.

The Vietnamese government has directed relevant ministries and local authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. Officials have stated that strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible after the investigation is completed.
